Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) pose significant challenges in humanitarian crises. In Ethiopia, drought, flooding, and conflict have worsened the NTD burden, threatening progress in their control. Our study aimed to integrate traditional healers into NTD control programs, focusing on schistosomiasis case detection in conflict-affected communities of Gondar Zone, Northern Ethiopia.
Using a mixed-methods approach, we evaluated the impact of traditional healers’ involvement on early case detection rates. Pre-intervention activities included stakeholder engagement and training sessions. During implementation, traditional healers used “purple cards” to refer suspected schistosomiasis cases to health centers.
